It’s crazy to think that I’ve been a part of the Absolute Digital Media team for 9 years now. And to think back at how fast those 9 years have gone! It’s been a whirlwind of an almost decade, of which I joined back in 2012. At the time, I was part way through my AAT studies but Ben and Lou both took me under their wing to help me achieve exactly what I wanted to.

01. Stepping Back To The Start
Let’s take things all the way back to when I started at the agency. I had a further 2 years of studying ahead of me in order to become AAT qualified and there was no better place to put my studies into practice and also further develop my skill set. We achieved so much during that two years from an agency perspective too from onboarding new staff members, to expanding the agency in terms of service offering and boosting our position in the industry, in fact, I remember when we had just 6 employees. We’re now a strong team of 35 individuals!
02. Being A Part Of The Agencies Initial Growth
As the weeks, months and years went on, Absolute Digital Media continued to grow and so did I. We went from having one person within each of our core services at the time (SEO and PPC) to 6 and so on. We didn’t just expand in terms of the numbers in the office, we expanded professionally too. More and more businesses were approaching us because they wanted to work with us directly having heard about all the fun and exciting stuff we were doing. We quickly hit the £1mil mark before we began considering our next move.
03. Welcoming Sam To The Finance Team
As we continued to grow, I knew that I would need a helping hand soon. This is when we hired Sam who has progressed from Junior Accounts Assistant, to my previous role of Finance Manager. It’s been amazing being able to train Sam right from the very start and being a part of his journey within the industry. I trained Sam from day one and am still in the process of doing so as he moves on to his latest finance studies. It’s definitely been a highlight of my time at Absolute Digital Media and I can’t wait to see him progress even further!
04. Moving Office
Due to our rapid growth, we knew that we were going to outgrow our office at Milstrete House pretty quickly, which is when we began looking for a new office local to the Chelmsford area. Ben had always wanted to have an office on the Springfield Lyons estate, and it just so happened that we found one available to let around this time. It was amazing to be a part of something that meant so much to Ben and Lou. It was a real goal post for us and, the fact that we were able to reach it and act on it, is difficult to forget.
05. Embracing Remote Working
Even though we had moved into our sparkly new office in the summer of 2019, the pandemic really changed our outlook. Like agencies and businesses across the world, we were forced to close our office doors for what we thought was going to be a 2-week period at the time. Of course, months passed and we knew that, in order to maintain our success, we needed to do something out of the ordinary. This is when becoming a remote agency came to mind, saying goodbye to office life forever as the world continued to adapt to the new normal. It was not an easy decision for us, having worked so hard to build such a strong company culture and we had endless discussions and meetings to ensure it was the right move for us. And I’m pleased to report that it was.
06. Striving As A Remote Agency
Becoming a remote agency meant that we would be able to reinvest the money spent on the office directly into our staff and their training which was a huge bonus for us and them alike. The decision to become a remote agency was initially going to be temporary, but we soon decided that the move would take place on a permanent basis having spoken to staff and weighed up the odds. Though this move wasn’t part of our intentions at the start, it’s helped me gain yet more experience within what I do, not just from a finance perspective, but a digital marketing perspective too. We really have shifted to adapt and it’s great to see how much it has benefitted us so far already.
07. Where I’m At Now
Recently I have been promoted to Finance Director at the agency and Sam has stepped into my previous role as Finance Manager. I’m so proud of this progression on both parts and will be starting my studies for my next qualification – the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) – very soon. I’ll also be continuing to support the agencies growth alongside Ben and Lou and hope to expand the finance team along the way as we progress in our journey to become the next best full-service, fully independent digital marketing agency in the UK.
Daisy has been with the Absolute Digital Media team since 2012 and has never looked back. While her title is Finance Manager, Daisy is involved in every aspect of the business from HR through to office management to ensure that each and every gear in the agency is churning as it should be. Daisy has grown alongside the company and has been a big part in all that has been achieved so far. AAT qualified and with plenty of industry experience to boot, Daisy can navigate Sage and Excel with her eyes shut and even classes numbers and graphs as one of her hobbies. When she’s not buried in spreadsheets and data, Daisy enjoys lovely long walks in the country with her adorable dog Lottie.
