How We Earned Sexy International Links For Adult Brand MegaPleasure

MegaPleasure are a leading adult sex toy and clothing supplier. Their goal was to generate sales and increase organic traffic. Like most, the adult industry is one that is saturated in choice. As a new brand, we needed to make sure they stood out to attract customers.

Since launching our digital PR initiative to drive organic backlinks through sector-specific, editorially earned research campaigns centred around sex and relationships, we have earned more than 150 pieces of coverage, of which 85% are branded links, boosting cross-departmental SEO and PPC benefits for organic rankings. A detailed outreach approach across a large variety of campaign topics meant we have secured coverage in top-tier publications internationally, including Buzzfeed, Refinery 29, Lifehacker and Cosmopolitan; with the highest domain rating 91. When breaking down campaign success, we were able to leverage Christmas and advent calendars with Megapleasure’s adult version. This campaign hit the spot, earning authoritative domains, direct to consumer, with an average domain rating of 77, featured internationally across core markets, such as America, United Kingdom, Hungary and Australia. The Objectives

The adult market can be notoriously difficult to secure backlinks that are not spammy. For this reason, we knew organic link building was the most credible option for MegaPleasure. To enhance their online visibility for keywords and becoming a one-stop shop for customers looking to enhance their sex life, we built a strategy for campaign ideas predominantly around sex, love, relationships and men and women’s interest, aiding authoritative coverage from journalists, trusting MegaPleasure’s authority in a specialised field.

The Strategy.

We knew the foundation to a truly successful strategy would be where it all starts – the idea. What differentiates our competition is our capability to pinpoint link opportunities, top performing content and pages, high ranking keywords (both short and long-tail) to ultimately ideate the very best campaign ideas that stand out against competitors. Whilst liaising with the SEO team, we succeeded to identify ideas that would help earn homepage links, as well as internal product pages and or blogs. Equipped with the tools needed to succeed, the digital pr team hosted various brainstorm workshops and ideation sessions, breaking down themes that could be married up and prospecting evergreen and universally appealing concepts to readers worldwide. By doing so, the depth of outreach was exemplary, gaining ‘sexy’ international links required.

The Campaign.

Advent calendars are ordinarily a hot topic for journalists in the consumer space to cover, ranging from beauty, health, wellness, food, and drink. With nearly 1,000 articles citing ‘advent calendars’ between October and December 2022 in the UK alone, we spotted a unique opportunity to give journalists and readers something more captivating, sexy, hilariously funny but also usable, creating the digital noise we were after. The result? A 4ft tall sex toy calendar, dubbed one of the largest worldwide, and including more than £1,000 worth of sex toys. We developed the product from scratch and created a landing product page for the sex toy advent calendar, coupled with imagery visualising the product and what consumers could expect. We pitched to journalists not only covering advent calendars, both past and present, but journalists covering sex, relationships and men and women’s interest. Our outreach strategy was carefully tailored to individual markets, reflecting the cost and availability of the product and how customers could purchase it. Part of the success of this campaign was driving a share of traffic and brand awareness to the site through naturally acquired citations as Megapleasure’s advent calendar would feature across journalists’ top picks of advent calendars for the season. Our release simply added to the overall coverage and visibility the calendar was producing. Another added benefit is that it can be easily reused year on year, adding to the product, allowing for purchases to build from the start of autumn.
