I came into search through journalism. I studied multimedia journalism and wrote for national press, including The Guardian, before moving into agency work in 2014. That background is the reason I ended up in content and digital PR rather than SEO. I was part of the early team at Reddico and helped grow the agency before it was acquired and merged into GAIN, working across content strategy, link building, agency operations and international expansion. I joined Absolute as Managing Director in February 2026.

At the agency

What Luke does here

I still shape digital PR angles myself, particularly in sectors where the obvious story will not get picked up

I run the agency day to day, so a good part of the week is the commercial side rather than the delivery: hiring, how the senior team is structured, performance management, and whether we are genuinely resourced to deliver what has been sold. The rest goes on the decisions that determine whether clients will be successful before the real work starts: who is on the account, how the strategy has been scoped, and whether what we have promised is actually deliverable. I get pulled in when a client's problem is commercial rather than technical, which usually means pitch strategy for a regulated account, restructuring campaigns that have drifted, or working out why a campaign that looks fine in a report is not moving revenue. Clients come to me directly when they want a straight answer on whether something is worth doing. I still shape digital PR angles myself, particularly in sectors where the obvious story will not get picked up.

The bigger picture

What drives Luke

The work still goes out on time, the reporting still happens, and nobody notices that the thinking stopped about eight months in

Most agencies lose an account long before the client says anything. The work still goes out on time, the reporting still happens, and nobody notices that the thinking stopped about eight months in. Retention is not a customer service problem, it is a strategy problem. If the plan you are running in year three is the plan you sold in month one, the account is already gone. The agencies that keep clients are the ones willing to tell them the original strategy is finished.
