Had a great experience working with the Absolute Digital team so far. They had their hands full working with us as a new brand in the adult market but have continued to take our website to new heights since we launched. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.
Impressions Up 1,152% in Three Months
How Absolute Digital Media launched a new brand into a contested category and found, in the keyword data, a market the business was not yet selling into.

What did Absolute Digital Media achieve for Pure Pleasure?
Absolute Digital Media's SEO campaign for Pure Pleasure delivered +1,152% monthly impressions (3,760 to 38,500), +54% organic traffic (410 to 630 monthly), 1 new market identified and opened: the US and 3 months (first campaign quarter).

A new brand launching into a decade-old category
Pure Pleasure is a UK adult products retailer that came to the campaign at launch, entering a category where the incumbents have been optimising for a decade and where most paid channels are closed.
The starting position matters for how the results should be read. This is not a recovery or a scaling story. It is the first quarter of a brand new business in search, and the ambition was to build the primary acquisition channel from nothing, in the right order, on foundations that compound.

Impression and traffic figures are drawn from the client’s own reporting and cover the first three months of the campaign, measured at the peak of the period. The US market finding is from the campaign’s keyword and demand analysis.

The choices that shaped the account

Read the keyword data as market intelligence, not just a targeting plan
The most valuable output of the campaign, in the judgement of SEO strategy lead Ben Austin, was not a ranking. It was the discovery, in the keyword and demand analysis, that a substantial share of the search interest in the brand’s products was coming from the United States, a market Pure Pleasure did not ship to. Most keyword research stops at building a targeting plan. Demand data is also market data, and it will tell a business where its customers are before the business has any customers there. We took that finding back to the client and worked with them on extending shipping to the US, which changed the addressable market rather than changing a ranking.

Build reviews before building rankings
We advised the client to collect reviews from early purchases as a priority, ahead of most of the content work. A new brand in a private purchase category has a trust question to answer before it has a traffic question. Reviews provide the additional touchpoints a cautious buyer needs and the corroboration search engines use to decide whether a retailer should be recommended at all. Getting the order right, trust first and traffic second, is what makes every subsequent visit worth more.

Map before creating
The campaign opened with keyword mapping across every existing category, assigning terms to URLs before any content was produced, followed by competitor research and gap analysis to identify opportunities and rank them by likely impact on visibility. The rejected alternative is publishing first and mapping later, which is how new sites end up with content competing against itself before it has ranked for anything. Mapping first meant the content strategy was built onto a structure that could hold it.

Fix the foundation in parallel, not afterwards
Technical audits ran alongside the content work, covering indexability, crawlability, site architecture and performance. On a new site these fixes are cheap to make and expensive to leave. Every one of them caps what the content above it can achieve, and they compound as the site grows. Fixing them at launch scale takes days. Fixing them at a thousand pages takes a quarter.

Build authority deliberately in a restricted sector
Link acquisition ran throughout, directed at driving domain authority in a way that supported rather than risked the search campaign. In restricted categories the placements that are easiest to obtain are frequently the ones that become liabilities later. A new brand with limited paid options cannot absorb a quality penalty, because there is no other channel to fall back on while it recovers.
Who ran what
SEO strategy, led by Ben Austin
Ben Austin set the sequencing a launch depends on: trust before traffic, mapping before content, technical foundations in parallel, and the keyword data read as market intelligence rather than a targeting plan. That last call is the one that changed the shape of the business, surfacing US demand the brand was not yet serving and turning a first-quarter search campaign into an international expansion decision.
Content, led by Alex Stott
Alex Stott led the content built onto the mapped structure: every term assigned to a URL before production began, competitor and gap analysis ranking the opportunities by likely impact, and category content written to convert a cautious first-time buyer. The impression growth from 3,760 to 38,500 a month is that structure becoming eligible across a far wider query set as the content took effect.
Digital PR and outreach, led by Jack Hawtin
Jack Hawtin led the authority build, selected on relevance rather than availability in a sector where the easy placements are the ones that turn into liabilities. A launch with limited paid alternatives cannot absorb a quality penalty, so every placement was chosen to support the campaign rather than risk it, building a profile a new domain can stand on through quality updates.
Technical SEO, led by Shofiur Rahman
Shofiur Rahman led the technical foundation work in parallel with the content: indexability, crawlability, site architecture and performance, resolved at launch scale while the fixes cost days rather than quarters. On a new domain that parallel delivery is what lets the mapped structure become eligible across the query set immediately, which is the mechanism behind the 1,152% impression growth.
Who worked on this account
What the campaign achieved
Impressions rose from 3,760 to 38,500 a month, an increase of 1,152% across the first three months, on the client’s own reporting. Organic traffic rose from 410 to 630 a month, an increase of 54%, over the same window. The US market was identified and opened: the demand analysis established that a significant share of interest in the brand’s products was coming from outside the shipping area, and the client extended fulfilment to the United States as a result.
The figures describe the first quarter of a brand that had no search presence at all. The impression growth shows the site becoming eligible across a far wider set of queries as the mapped structure and content took effect, which is the leading indicator on a new domain. Traffic follows as those positions mature, and the shipping expansion changed the size of the market that growth could be sold into.
| Measure | Before | After | Change |

What new brands in restricted categories should take from this
What Pure Pleasure say
Launching a brand in search, answered
What should a brand new ecommerce site expect from SEO in the first quarter?
Eligibility before performance. Impressions rise first as the site becomes visible across a wider query set, then traffic follows as positions mature, then revenue follows that. Pure Pleasure’s impressions rose 1,152%, from 3,760 to 38,500 a month, with traffic up 54% in the first three months, which is the expected shape for a launch.
Are impressions a useful metric?
As a leading indicator on a new domain, yes. They show the site is becoming eligible for queries it previously could not appear for, which precedes any click. They are an early signal to watch while positions mature, with traffic and then revenue the measures a campaign is ultimately judged on.
Can keyword research tell you where to expand?
It can, and it is one of the most underused outputs of a search campaign. Demand data shows where interest exists regardless of where a business currently sells. On this account it identified substantial US demand and led to the client extending shipping to that market.
Why prioritise reviews over content for a new brand?
Because a new brand loses visitors to doubt rather than to competitors, particularly on a private purchase. Reviews and social proof collected early make every subsequent visit worth more. Trust first, then traffic.
Should content be created before or after keyword mapping?
After, always. Content produced before the structure exists competes with itself and creates cannibalisation that has to be unpicked later. Mapping terms to URLs first is a short exercise that prevents a long clean-up.
When should technical SEO be addressed on a new site?
Immediately, because it is never cheaper. The same issues take days to resolve at launch scale and a quarter at a thousand pages, and everything built above them is capped until they are fixed.
How should link building work in a restricted category?
Selectively, on relevance rather than availability. The placements easiest to obtain in these sectors frequently become liabilities, and a business with limited paid alternatives cannot absorb a quality penalty while it recovers.
Why does organic search lead acquisition for new adult brands?
Because most major platforms restrict or prohibit the category, which leaves limited and expensive paid inventory. That shifts the weight of acquisition onto organic search and changes the investment case, since the alternative is not a cheaper channel but no channel.
