Local SEO in Dubai and across the UAE

Local SEO in Dubai, in a country with no postcodes

Local SEO in Dubai and across the UAE runs on one thing above all else: a name, address and phone number that match everywhere Google looks. The UAE has no postal code system, so the field the entire citation industry relies on to confirm two listings are the same business simply doesn’t exist here. Dubai uses Makani numbers, Abu Dhabi uses Onwani, and post goes to a PO Box that isn’t a location at all. Our local SEO services in Dubai are built around what this country actually uses, not the templates built for markets that have postcodes.

What is local SEO in Dubai?

Local SEO in Dubai is the work of making a business visible in searches with a place attached: the map pack, Google Maps itself, or a query carrying a community name. With no postcodes here it turns on consistency across listings and directories, much of it off your own website.

    Why a specialist

    What is local SEO?

Local SEO is the work of making a business visible in searches that have a place attached: the map pack at the top of the results, Google Maps itself, and queries carrying a community name or a landmark. It rests on three things. A Google Business Profile that Google trusts, a citation footprint that agrees with it, and pages on your own site that can rank for the places a profile cannot. In the UAE there is a fourth, which is establishing what your address actually is in a country with no postcode system and two competing addressing conventions. It runs alongside SEO rather than instead of it, across the many industries we work in.

    How the work runs

Profile, citations, pages, in that order

The order matters, because correcting a profile and the citations behind it is the fastest gain available: you’re fixing information rather than earning authority. Location pages come next, since they can rank for communities, landmarks and services no profile field covers. Reviews run across all of it and never stop. What a genuine local SEO agency in Dubai won’t do is buy citations in bulk or incentivise reviews, both of which work briefly and then cost you the listing. Local SEO agency in Dubai FAQs

    What is local SEO?

Local SEO in Dubai is the work of making a business visible in searches with a place attached, whether that’s a map pack, Google Maps itself or a query carrying a community name, and it turns on consistency, not content volume.

That’s the part most people find counterintuitive. A great deal of it happens outside your website, in listings and directories you may not even know exist.

How does local SEO work in a country with no postcodes?

Carefully, because the postcode is the field the entire citation industry uses to confirm that two listings describe the same business, and the UAE does not have one, so consistency has to be enforced on the parts of the address it does have.

In practice that means the community name, building, unit, the Makani or Onwani number and the emirate, in the same order and the same spelling every single time. A PO Box is where your post arrives rather than where your business is, so it does not belong in a location field at all.

What is a Makani number, and does Google use it?

Our local SEO packages in Dubai account for the fact that a Makani number, a ten-digit geographic address used in Dubai and several northern emirates, identifies a specific building entrance, and although a Google listing has no dedicated field for it, it’s the most precise way to state where you are.

Abu Dhabi uses Onwani instead, which assigns each building its own identifier and QR code, so an address format that works in Dubai doesn’t simply transfer. We use whichever the emirate uses, on your site and in every directory, and we place the map pin ourselves rather than trusting the one Google guesses.

Our office is a flexi-desk in a free zone. Can we still rank locally?

Usually yes, but it is the single most common reason a profile in this market fails verification or gets suspended, because a shared free zone address is not a place a customer can visit and Google treats it accordingly.

Where you genuinely go to customers rather than host them, configuring the listing as a service area business is both the honest answer and the one that ranks. Where you do have an office people visit, the address on the profile needs to match the one on the trade licence.

Why was our Google Business Profile suspended?

Most often because the address could not be confirmed, the profile address did not match the trade licence, or the listing claimed a category or a service area the business cannot actually support from where it sits.

Reinstatement is a documentation exercise rather than an argument, and appealing without fixing the underlying cause usually burns the appeal. So we work out what triggered it before anything is submitted.

Should our listing be in English or Arabic?

Both, and for most clients of our local SEO Dubai service, in that order of priority. The population is overwhelmingly expatriate and searches predominantly in English, while an Arabic listing reaches an audience the English one simply doesn’t.

The real risk is transliteration. One brand spelled three different ways across directories reads as three different businesses, and inconsistent transliteration is one of the quieter reasons a listing underperforms without anyone being able to say why.

We have branches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. One profile or two?

Two, almost always, because each emirate licenses businesses separately, so a branch in Abu Dhabi is usually a distinct licensed entity at a distinct address, and Google expects one profile per staffed location in any case.

It follows that you have two sets of reviews, two citation footprints and two location pages to look after. Run as one they compete with each other. Run properly, each owns the communities around it.

    How important are reviews?

Enormously, and more than most owners expect. In a map pack, the review count and the rating are the two things a searcher compares before anything else, and they also influence what Google chooses to show in the first place. This is a core part of any local SEO services in Dubai worth paying for.

We set up a consistent way of asking rather than a campaign that spikes and stops. We don’t buy or incentivise reviews, and any agency offering to is offering you a suspension with extra steps.

What does a local SEO engagement include?

It covers three separate jobs: the Google Business Profile itself, the citation and directory footprint that corroborates it, and the pages on your own site that rank for community and service queries, with a reviews programme running across all three.

The balance between them depends entirely on what you already have. A business with a clean profile and no location pages needs close to the opposite of one with fifty listings that disagree with each other. Tell us where you are and we will scope it properly.

How long does local SEO in Dubai take?

Profile and citation work shows up faster than most search work, often within weeks, because you are correcting information rather than earning authority, and map pack visibility responds to accuracy more quickly than organic rankings respond to content.

The slower half is competitive community queries, reviews and location pages, which behave like the rest of SEO. Anyone promising you a fixed date for a map pack position is guessing.

Do you build location pages as well?

Yes, and they are usually the half of local SEO an agency skips, because a profile can only rank where you hold a listing whereas a page on your own site can rank for a community, a landmark or a service that no profile field covers.

Here it matters more than usual. People search and navigate by community and landmark rather than by postcode, so the geography your pages need to target looks nothing like the geography a European site would use.

How is local SEO different from regular SEO?

Local SEO is about being findable at a place, so it turns on the accuracy of information held outside your website, whereas the rest of SEO turns on what is on your site and who links to it, and the two need each other.

Neither works alone for a business with premises. A listing with no site behind it has nothing to convert on, and a site with no listing is invisible in the results that sit above it. Our SEO work and this run together.
