Link building for schools, relevance before volume

An institution does not need a thousand links, it needs the handful that tell a search engine a real, well regarded place exists where you say it does and teaches what you say it teaches. That means community and city guides, genuine education and family sources, and listings that corroborate every campus in a country with no postcodes.

    Why a specialist

Education link building is not generalist link building

Authority for an institution is a different shape to authority for a retailer. It is heavily local and heavily corroborative: the community and city guides a family actually reads, the genuine education and family sources, and the listings and profiles that confirm the same name, the same curriculum and the same campus locations in a country with no postcode system. Relevance does most of the work, which is why a small number of on topic links moves a school further than a pile of unrelated ones. It is one of the disciplines on our link building offer, run for the institutions in our education work.

There is a sector specific trap worth naming. Education attracts a large volume of directory and listing offers, many of them sold by the hundred, and most of them add no authority at all while quietly introducing the inconsistent addresses and outdated year group lists that undermine the local search position you were trying to protect. We audit what exists before adding anything.

    How the work runs

    Audit, correct, then earn

First an audit, because an education link profile is usually part bulk directory noise and part genuinely useful, and knowing which is which changes everything about what to do next. Then the corroborative layer, which is the listings and profiles that repeat your name, your curriculum and each campus consistently, since in a country with no postcodes that consistency is doing real work for the local position. Only then outreach, aimed at the guides, community resources and education sources that already rank for the searches a family in your catchment runs.

What we will not do is buy placements, use networks or take a directory package by the hundred, because all three work briefly and then cost more than they earned. Talk to our team about what your link profile currently looks like.

    Questions

    Education link building, answered

What is link building for an institution?

The work of earning relevant, authoritative links to a school, nursery, university or training provider, mostly from community and city guides, family titles, genuine education sources and the listings that corroborate where each campus actually is.

For a university it extends further, because the audience is international and the useful sources sit outside the local market as well as inside it.

Is a bulk directory package worth it?

No, and it is the most common thing we ask institutions to stop doing, because hundreds of unrelated school listings add no authority at all and usually introduce the inconsistent addresses and stale year group lists that damage local visibility.

A small number of accurate, relevant listings is worth more than a large number of anything. The clean up is often the first job.

Do you buy links or pay for placements?

No, because a bought link is a short term gain that has to be explained later, and in a sector where families are specifically looking for signs that an institution is credible it is a poor thing to have attached to your name.

Every link is earned on editorial merit and would stand up to a manual review.

Which links actually help a school here?

On topic, locally relevant ones, which means the community and city guides a family reads, parenting and family titles, genuine education sources, and the directory and listing entries that repeat your campus details accurately.

Relevance does most of the work. A high authority link from a site with nothing to do with education does very little for an institution.

We run several campuses. How does that affect the links?

It roughly multiplies the corroboration job, because there are no postcodes here and each campus has to be listed accurately in its own right or parents filtering on the commute are shown the wrong one for their neighbourhood.

Dubai and several northern emirates use Makani and Abu Dhabi uses Onwani. Every listing needs the right one for the right campus.

How is this different from digital PR?

Digital PR earns coverage and links through stories an editor wants to run, while link building is the broader discipline of growing authority, including the corroborative listings and profiles that will never be newsworthy but still have to be right.

They overlap and we run both, often together. See Digital PR for Education.

    How long does it take?

The corrective part is quick, because removing inconsistencies and fixing campus listings is a fix rather than a campaign, while earned authority behaves like the rest of SEO and accumulates across cycles rather than inside one window.

It pairs directly with our SEO for Education work, which is where the benefit actually shows up.
