Local SEO for virtual asset businesses in Dubai

Local SEO for virtual assets, where trust is the whole product

Almost nobody walks into a virtual asset business, so local search here is not about footfall. It is about being verifiably real in a category where users are right to be sceptical, and about being findable when somebody searches for a licensed provider in Dubai. Your listing, your licence and your marketing all have to say the same thing, and VARA has rules about how the last of those is worded.

What local SEO means for Crypto

Local SEO for a virtual asset business is mostly a trust and verification exercise: a Google Business Profile that confirms a real office at a real address, consistent citations, and pages that make your licensing position unambiguous. Because a great many users are choosing between providers on credibility alone, the signals that prove you exist do commercial work. VARA marketing rules apply to everything you publish, and they require promotion to be fair, clear and not misleading and to carry the prescribed risk disclaimer.

Underneath all of it sits one fact that shapes local search in this country: the UAE has no postal code system. Dubai and several northern emirates use Makani, a ten digit address identifying a building entrance, and Abu Dhabi uses Onwani instead. A PO Box is where post arrives, not where a business is. So the consistency local search depends on has to be enforced deliberately, on the parts of an address that do exist. Our local SEO page covers the method in full.

    How the work runs

Profile, citations, pages, in that order

The order matters, because correcting a profile and the citations behind it is the fastest gain available: you are fixing information rather than earning authority. Location pages come next, since they can rank for communities and services no profile field covers. Reviews run across all of it and never stop. What we will not do is buy citations in bulk or incentivise reviews, both of which work briefly and then cost you the listing. Talk to our team about what your local footprint looks like today.

    Questions

    Local SEO for Crypto, answered

Do VARA rules apply to our Google profile and location pages?

Treat them as though they do, because VARA marketing rules cover promotion of virtual asset activity rather than a specific channel, and anything published about your services that overstates your licensing position is a compliance exposure.

The rules also require promotion to be fair, clear and not misleading and to carry the prescribed risk disclaimer.

We have no office customers visit. Should we still have a profile?

Yes, configured honestly as a service area business rather than a storefront, because users in this category verify a provider before they trust it and an absent or unverified profile reads as a warning sign rather than as a neutral absence.

Claiming a visitable address you do not have is how profiles get suspended.

Does being in DIFC or ADGM change anything?

It changes who regulates you and therefore what your pages should say, because those are separate financial free zones with their own regulators, and a licensing claim that names the wrong authority undermines exactly the trust the page is trying to build.

The address itself also has to match the licence.

How do we handle reviews in a sceptical category?

By asking consistently and never incentivising, because in a category with a trust problem a review profile that looks bought is worse than a thin one, and users in this sector are unusually good at spotting it.

Any agency offering to buy reviews is offering you a suspension.

    What is local SEO?

Local SEO is the work of making a business visible in searches with a place attached, whether that is a map pack, Google Maps itself or a query carrying a community name, and it turns on consistency rather than on content volume.

Much of it happens outside your website, in listings and directories you may not know exist.

How does local SEO work in a country with no postcodes?

Carefully, because the postcode is the field the entire citation industry uses to confirm that two listings describe the same business, and the UAE does not have one, so consistency has to be enforced on the parts of the address it does have.

In practice that means the community name, building, unit, the Makani or Onwani number and the emirate, in the same order and the same spelling every single time.

What is a Makani number, and does Google use it?

A Makani number is a ten digit geographic address used in Dubai and several northern emirates which identifies a specific building entrance, and although a Google listing has no dedicated field for it, it is the most precise way to state where you are.

Abu Dhabi uses Onwani instead, which assigns each building its own identifier and QR code, so an address format that works in Dubai does not simply transfer.

Our office is a flexi-desk in a free zone. Can we still rank locally?

Usually yes, but it is the single most common reason a profile in this market fails verification or gets suspended, because a shared free zone address is not a place a customer can visit and Google treats it accordingly.

Where you genuinely go to customers rather than host them, configuring the listing as a service area business is both the honest answer and the one that ranks.

Why was our Google Business Profile suspended?

Most often because the address could not be confirmed, the profile address did not match the trade licence, or the listing claimed a category or a service area the business cannot actually support from where it sits.

Reinstatement is a documentation exercise rather than an argument, and appealing without fixing the underlying cause usually burns the appeal.

Should our listing be in English or Arabic?

Both, and for most businesses here in that order of priority, because the population is overwhelmingly expatriate and searches predominantly in English, while an Arabic listing reaches an audience the English one does not.

The real risk is transliteration: one brand spelled three ways across directories reads as three different businesses.

We have branches in more than one emirate. One profile or two?

Two, almost always, because each emirate licenses businesses separately, so a branch elsewhere is usually a distinct licensed entity at a distinct address, and Google expects one profile per staffed location in any case.

That means two sets of reviews, two citation footprints and two location pages to look after.

    How important are reviews?

Enormously, and more than most owners expect, because in a map pack the review count and the rating are the two things a searcher compares before they compare anything else, and they also influence what Google chooses to show.

We set up a consistent, compliant way of asking rather than a campaign that spikes and stops, and we never buy or incentivise reviews.
