The work that holds up is judged on how it looks and on whether it did the job, not one or the other

Shane Fox’s experience
A campaign needing a brand system, a set of social assets and a landing page in the same week rewards someone who has built all three

What Shane does here
Design decisions are made with an understanding of how they will be implemented, rather than handed over and hoped for
Shane owns the design layer across the agency's client work and its own brand. Day to day that means campaign creative and social assets, brand and identity work, pitch and proposal design, landing pages built to convert rather than merely to look finished, and the video and animation that carries a campaign beyond static assets.
A substantial part of the role is the agency's own website and the design system behind it: the component library, the type and colour tokens, and the section patterns every page is assembled from, so new pages stay consistent instead of being rebuilt from scratch each time. He works alongside the technical team on the build itself, which means design decisions are made with an understanding of how they will be implemented rather than handed over and hoped for.
In regulated sectors the constraint is different from ordinary brand work. Creative has to clear compliance before anyone gets to judge it on performance, so it is designed to that standard from the first draft rather than corrected afterwards.

What drives Shane
A landing page that wins a design award and converts at two percent has failed
Design in this industry gets judged too often on how it looks in a portfolio and not often enough on whether it did the job. A landing page that wins a design award and converts at two percent has failed. The reverse is also true: performance creative that looks cheap costs a brand something real, it just does not show up in a monthly report.
The work that holds up does both at once, and in regulated sectors it has to manage that inside rules which remove most of the easy visual shortcuts. In practice that constraint tends to produce better design rather than worse, because it forces the idea to carry the work instead of the decoration.
