PPC for schools, bought against the window

Paid search is the fastest lever an institution has, which is why it is so often spread evenly across a year that is nothing like even. Demand concentrates into a few admissions windows, the thing worth buying is a campus visit rather than a click, and a budget that ignores both spends most of itself in the weeks that needed it least.

    Why a specialist

Education PPC is not generalist PPC

Paid media for an institution is bought against a calendar rather than against a steady stream. The windows decide where the money goes, which makes a flat monthly budget the most common and most expensive mistake in the category. The account is shaped differently too, because the conversion worth paying for is a campus visit rather than an application, the targeting runs on commute rather than on a radius somebody picked, and the person clicking is frequently not the only person deciding. It is one of the disciplines on our PPC offer, run for the institutions in our education work.

Measurement is where most education accounts come apart. A booked tour that was arranged on the phone or at a desk is invisible unless the tracking was built to catch it, and a plan judged on form fills will quietly reward the wrong campaigns for a whole cycle. We connect that before the spend goes live rather than after the first report looks odd.

    How the work runs

Buy the window, measure the visit

We start with your calendar rather than a keyword list, because in this sector the calendar decides where the money should be. Then the account is built by curriculum, year group and campus, with geography drawn around the journey a family would genuinely make rather than a circle on a map, and with the measurement connected before anything goes live. That includes call tracking, because a tour booked over the phone is otherwise credited to nothing and the campaign that produced it quietly gets switched off.

Outside the windows we would rather hold the budget than spend it to look busy, and we will say so in the report. Talk to our team about which weeks of your year paid media should be carrying.

    Questions

    Education PPC, answered

What does education PPC actually cover?

Paid search and paid social for an institution, planned around the admissions calendar and built by curriculum, year group and campus rather than as one generic account pointed at whoever happens to be searching that month.

The goal is a booked campus visit. Everything in the account is judged on whether it produces more of them.

Should we really switch the budget off between windows?

Not entirely, but it should drop a long way, because paid spend in the months when no family is choosing a school buys clicks from people who cannot act on them and leaves you short in the fortnight when the decision is actually being made.

A small presence outside the window still earns its place. A flat twelve month budget almost never does.

Why measure visits instead of enquiries?

Because a visit is the point at which a family stops comparing you on a screen and starts deciding, and because enquiry volume can rise for months while tours stay flat if the account is quietly funding whatever produces the cheapest form fill.

It takes a little setup at the start. We would rather build it properly than report on the easy number.

A lot of our tours are booked by phone. Does that break the tracking?

It does unless it is handled deliberately, because a call that converts leaves no trace in the ad account, so the campaign that produced it looks unprofitable and tends to be cut while the one producing untracked enquiries looks good.

Call tracking is connected before spend goes live. It is the single most valuable piece of setup in an education account.

How should we target geographically when there are no postcodes?

On the journey rather than on a radius, because a parent is deciding whether the daily commute is bearable and a circle drawn on a map will include communities nobody would realistically drive from twice a day.

Dubai and several northern emirates use Makani and Abu Dhabi uses Onwani. We build the targeting around the roads rather than the pin.

Who exactly are the adverts talking to?

Usually more than one person, since the parent who first clicks is rarely the only one deciding and an employer relocation package can bring a third set of priorities into a conversation you never get to see.

So the creative carries the practical detail as well as the feel. One reader wants the atmosphere and the other wants the logistics.

Does paid work for a university or a training provider as well?

Yes, although the account looks different enough to be planned separately, because a university is often competing internationally with a far longer consideration period while a training provider is selling to an adult who can decide alone and act quickly.

The constant is the calendar. Both still have intakes, and both still waste money by spreading spend evenly across them.
